Can you gamble online in Rhode Island?

RHODE ISLAND legalised in-person sports betting in 2018, and a year later added online sports betting to the gambling package on offer to the state’s bettors.

Initially the state legislated for in-person registration for online sports gambling, with the law stating that the process to sign up for the one legal sports betting website, controlled by the state lottery, had to be completed at one of two state casinos. Authorities soon discovered that enforcing gamblers to travel to register was off-putting, so less than a year later they changed the law to allow for remote registration.

The downside to the sports betting legislation is that only two sites are available to place in-person bets – the Twin River casinos at Lincoln and Tiverton.

Online and retail sports betting are legal, with Rhode Island one of the first states to legislate to update its gambling laws in 2018. 

RI Horse Racing Betting

The state has no race tracks but there is in-person horse race betting available at the two casinos, and advance-deposit wagering operators like TwinSpires and TVG are open to Rhode Island residents.

Despite the lack of locations available to gamble in-person, there have been no moves to legalize online casinos. The state’s two casinos, however, do offer slots and a variety of table games to visitors.
