The U.S. Open Betting

The recent winners of the US Open Golf Championship have read like a who’s who of the links game. Jordan Spieth, Bryson DeChambeau, Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka (twice) and Jon Rahm, all ranked among the top 15 golfers in the world, have won titles since 2015.

One of golf’s four majors, the US Open rates on par with the Masters as the top golfing events in the country. Unlike the Masters, which is permanently entrenched at Augusta National, the US Open moves to a different course each year, presenting a unique challenge of golf to the players in every tournament.

These courses are toughened up for the test of mettle that is the US Open. Fairways are tightened, rough is lengthened, greens are made slicker and pin placements are more demanding. To win the US Open means that a player has conquered as tough a test of golf as they will face during their playing careers.

The 2022 US Open is set for The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts. In 1988, Curtis Strange won the first of his back-to-back US Open titles the previous time the tournament was held in Brookline.

Julius Boros won at Brookline in 1963. At 43, he’s the second-oldest US Open winner. The scoring average of 77.4 at the 1963 US Open remains the second-highest total in post-war history of the US Open.

Amateur Francis Ouimet was the victor there in 1913. He was the first amateur player to win the tournament.

The champions of all three US Opens played at Brookline earned their titles via 18-hole playoffs. Strange beat Nick Faldo. Boros defeated Arnold Palmer and Jackie Cupit. Ouimet overcame boh Harry Vardon and Ted Ray.

Brookline held the US Open on both the 50th (1963) and 75th (1988) anniversary of the tournament. The course also played host to the 1995 US Women’s Open, the 1999 Ryder Cup and the 2013 US Amateur.

Odds, Bet Types & Projections

Betting on the US Open begins almost immediately after the previous year’s tournament concludes with a champion being determined. Future book odds are posted on the following year’s event right away. Reigning champion Rahm is currently the +900 favorite to repeat as champion.

However, that’s only occurred three times since 1950 – Ben Hogan (1950-51), Strange (1988-89) and Koepka (2017-18).

There are plenty of betting options when it comes to the US Open. These include round matchup, pitting two golfers against each other in a head-to-head showdown. There’s also 3-ball odds in which trios of golfers are assembled into groups by an online sportsbook and compete in a virtual showdown. All of the standard moneyline and spreads are offered, as well as live in-play betting options as each round is ongoing. Online sports betting sites will also offer boosted odds on select wagers during the tournament.

There are prop bets speculating on everything from will any player record a hole in one to finishes in the Top 10 and Top 20, who will be the leader after each round, which players will make the cut and top nationality betting.
