Sportsbook Regulation in Wisconsin
Legalized sports betting is focused around the state’s tribal nations. The Oneida Nation expanded its gaming compact with an amendment in 2021 that permits sports betting on its land. However, tribal gaming is protected by a state body – the Department of Administration’s Division of Gaming.
While the Oneida Casino has the monopoly on sports betting in Wisconsin in 2022, other tribes are looking to muscle in. The St. Croix Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin and Forest County Potawatomi Community are launching sportsbooks at their casinos.
The St. Croix tribe started offering sports betting at its Turtle Lake casino in April 2022. Sportsbooks are also being opened at St. Croix properties in Hertel and Danbury.
The Forest County Potawatomi Tribe followed suit in 2022 after signing a compact amendment with Gov. Tony Evers.
