The Championship Series: What the NBA Finals Are
The NBA Finals decide the league title between the winners of the Eastern and Western Conferences. The winning team receives the Larry O’Brien Trophy, and the best player in the series is awarded the Bill Russell NBA Finals MVP trophy.
The series is a best of seven. The team with the better regular-season record has home-court advantage and hosts Games 1, 2, 5 and 7; the other team hosts Games 3, 4 and 6. 2027 NBA Finals Dates and the Road to June
The NBA has not yet published dates for the 2027 Finals. The regular season is scheduled to end on April 11, 2027. The Play-In Tournament starts on April 13 and the playoffs on April 17. Each of the four playoff rounds is a best of seven.
The pattern from recent years points to early June. In 2026, Game 1 was played on Wednesday, June 3, and the Knicks clinched the title in Game 5 on Saturday, June 13. A full seven-game series would have run to June 19.
The two finalists are known only after the conference finals in late May. Futures on the 2027 title are open all season.
