Casino Wagering Requirements: How the UK's 10x Cap Works in Practice

A wagering requirement is the number of times you must bet a casino bonus before it, and anything it wins, can be withdrawn. For years it was the term that made UK casino bonuses hard to value: 35x or 40x was common, and many players never saw a penny of their bonus. Since 19 January 2026, the Gambling Commission has limited it to ten times.
The cap makes offers easier to compare, but it does not make them identical. What the 10x applies to, which games count, how much you may stake and how much you may win still vary from one casino to the next. What Changed on 19 January 2026
The Gambling Commission announced two changes in March 2025, after a consultation that followed the government’s 2023 White Paper, High stakes: gambling reform for the digital age. Both came into force on 19 January 2026.
The first limits operators to ten times re-staking of bonus funds before winnings can be withdrawn. The Commission’s reasoning was that high requirements could confuse consumers and lead them to gamble for longer, and faster, than they otherwise would. The second bans promotions that require two or more types of gambling, such as betting and slots, to qualify. That is why bookmakers now run separate casino offers that need only casino play.
Working Out a Wagering Target
The basic sum is the bonus multiplied by the requirement. A £20 bonus at 10x means £200 of bets before the bonus converts to cash.

Every pound staked counts towards the target, win or lose, provided the game counts in full. Spinning £1 a time, a £200 target is 200 spins.
Bonus Only, or Deposit Plus Bonus?
The cap limits the multiplier, not what it is multiplied by, and casinos apply it in different ways. This single line in the terms can double the target.
Bonus only. Casumo applies 10x to the bonus amount. Deposit £200, receive the maximum £100 bonus, and the target is £1,000, to be met within seven days at no more than £5 a bet.
Deposit plus bonus. Happy Tiger asks you to wager the deposit and the bonus together 10x. Deposit £20, receive £20, and the target is (£20 + £20) × 10 = £400. Grosvenor works the same way: £600 on its £20 deposit and £40 bonus.
