Wisconsin appears to be in favor of opening up sports betting but it’s turned into a slow process, with only the Oneida Casino at Green Bay officially accepting sports bets after changing the terms of its compact with the state late last year. On the positive front, the Potawatomi and Ho-Chunk nations are eager to follow in Oneida’s footsteps by offering sports betting in Milwaukee and Madison, and online sportsbooks should follow soon after.

While there is no availability of legal online sports betting in Wisconsin, there are many offshore sportsbooks that are open to the state’s residents. However, these sportsbooks are operating outside US law, and offer no consumer protection to Wisconsin users, meaning there is no guarantee they will pay out winning bets. The only online legal betting is horse racing, with advance-deposit wagering available.
