What Royal Ascot Is: Flat Racing’s Five-Day Showpiece
Royal Ascot is staged at Ascot Racecourse, near Windsor, each June. It runs over five days, Tuesday to Saturday, with seven races a day.
The quality is unmatched in the British flat season. In 2026 the week featured eight Group 1 races: the Queen Anne Stakes, King Charles III Stakes and St James’s Palace Stakes on the Tuesday; the Prince of Wales’s Stakes on the Wednesday; the Gold Cup on the Thursday; the Commonwealth Cup and Coronation Stakes on the Friday; and the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes on the Saturday.
Between them come Group 2 and 3 races for two-year-olds, such as the Coventry and Queen Mary Stakes, and the heritage handicaps that draw big fields: the Royal Hunt Cup, the Britannia Stakes, the Wokingham and the Ascot Stakes among them.
Racegoers choose between three enclosures. The Royal Enclosure is for members and their guests; the Queen Anne Enclosure starts from £95; the Windsor Enclosure from £30, with no formal dress code.
Royal Ascot 2027 Dates and the Daily Race Programme
Ascot has confirmed the dates as Tuesday 15 to Saturday 19 June 2027. The 2027 race-by-race schedule had not been published when this guide was updated. The table shows how the Group 1s fell in 2026; the main races have held their days for many years.

In 2026 the first race went off at 2.30pm each day and the last at 6.10pm, with the Gold Cup at 4.15pm.
Royal Ascot comes ten days after the Derby at Epsom on Saturday 5 June, the same day as the Champions League Final. Wimbledon starts on Monday 28 June.
